The American Heritage Dictionary defines music as, “The art of organizing sound so as to elicit an aesthetic response in a listener.” It doesn’t talk about genres or sub-genres. It doesn’t talk about seven figure deals or agents or labels or any of the stuff that we’ve inflicted on music over the last couple-or-six decades. It speaks, I think, more closely to the heart. Or, maybe more accurately, closer to the heart of the matter. See if you can help us stay straight and true.
